Last week we discussed how the police can reconnect with the community. Today, we look at how the police build media relations and how it impacts the community.

John Nebl is a Sargent and Public Information Officer with the Schaumburg, Illinois Police Department. He explains the two roles of media for the police are to be responsive to the community and to share the positive stories that come out of the department as well as the community.

Whether in-person or through the media, having a clear communication link between the police and the public via media relations is vital for a true understanding of what is happening in the community.

How well do you feel the police media relations are in your community? Are they responsive to the needs of your community? Do you hear positive stories come out of your community?
